1/2 cup butter (1 stick)-- softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 cup milk
2 1/2 cups cake flour

Cream butter, shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add baking powder, salt, and vanilla. Mix until blended. Add milk and mix well. Add flour and mix until smooth. Pour batter into a 13" X 9" pan (1/4 sheet) or 2 9" round cake pans sprayed with cooking spray. Bake at 350 degrees until cake tests done. Cool in pans a few minutes and then turn out on cooling racks. Frost with desired frosting when cake is cooled.
