1/2 cup green bell pepper -- chopped
1/2 cup fresh tomatoes -- chopped
1 tablespoon cajun seasoning
2 teaspoons cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon basil
salt and pepper -- to taste

In your favorite bean pot add the pinto beans and cover with water. Add the onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. Add all the spices. Cut the smoked sausage into small cubes. Bring beans to a boil and then reduce heat to low. Cook for about 1 hour and then add the sausage. Add water as needed to prevent burning. Continue to cook until beans are tender.
