Doris's Yummy Chocolate Cake     Back to Cakes Menu     Printer Friendly Page

Preparation Time 1:20

1 cup water
1 stick butter -- or 1/2 cup
1/2 cup shortening
4 tablespoons cocoa
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon vanilla
1/2 cup buttermilk

In a sauce pan heat butter, water, shortening, and cocoa until well blended. Set chocolate mixture aside and let cool. Mix all dry ingredients. Add eggs and buttermilk. Mix until well blended. Add chocolate mixture and mix well. Pour batter into a 13 X 9 (1/4 sheet) pan or 2 9" round cake pans sprayed with cooking spray. Bake in 375 degree oven for about 30 minutes or until cake tests done. Turn cake out on a cooling rack and let cool completely. Prepare frosting and apply to cooled cake.

Doris's Chocolate Frosting

1 stick butter -- or 1/2 cup
4 tablespoons cocoa
6 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 bag confectioner's sugar -- 3 1/2 cups

Melt butter in sauce pan. Add cocoa and milk and blend well. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add chocolate mixture to sugar and vanilla. Mix until smooth. Apply to cake.
