Makes 2 loaves

1 cup butter (2 sticks)-- softened
2 cups sugar
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
4 eggs
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 cup milk
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup pecans -- chopped

Cream butter, sugar, and eggs. Add rest of dry ingredients except flour and mix well. Add flour, vanilla, almond extract, and milk and mix until smooth. Add dates and pecans and mix well. Pour batter into 2 loaf pans that have been sprayed with cooking spray or lined with baking paper(preferred method). Bake in a 350 degree oven until centers test done. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes, then remove from pans and place on cooling racks to cool.
