Yields enough for a 3 layer cake

16 ounces cream cheese
1 stick butter -- (1/2 cup)
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 pounds powdered sugar -- (1 large bag)

Put the cream cheese and butter in a mixer and beat until blended. Add vanilla. Add about 1/4 of the sugar and blend until smooth. Continue adding sugar until all of the sugar is combined. Beat until smooth. Place in refrigerator until ready to use.
